SSPX Information to be added

We have been asked to include schedules for the SSPX chapels/missions located within the Archdiocese of Portland:

While the priests of the SSPX (Society of Saint Pius X) currently have their juridical faculties to say Mass revoked by Rome (although they have been granted faculties to hear confessions and grant absolution), we know that there are a great many people who, being people of good will seek nothing more than a properly done Tridentine Mass and a proper sermon in attending the SSPX.

Technically the Masses said by the SSPX are valid, but illicit. There are arguments made on both sides as to the value or detriment of attending one of these Masses. The SSPX has never been declared to be in schism by Holy Mother Church in her Magisterium. They have an irregular canonical status, due to their faculties having been revoked. However, as noted they have faculties to hear confession, and all of their priestly ordinations are valid and accepted by Rome. The issue at hand, currently, is the faculty to say Mass.

The people who attend the SSPX Masses have never been ex-communicated, or sanctioned in any way by Rome. Pope Francis has recognized the sincere faith of these lay folk on numerous occasion, and has been in continuing discussions with the leadership of the Society on how best to correct the irregular canonical situation.

In following the lead of Pope Francis, who stated that he gave faculties to hear confessions licitly as an act of mercy and charity, we have decided that we will honor the wishes of those who would like to see these additional Mass times/parish activities listed.

We realize that this may seem controversial to some, and to those we simply suggest overlooking the list of SSPX Masses (they will be clearly noted) and sticking with the diocesan list of Masses, and, praying for status of the Society as they pray diligently for Pope Francis and the whole of the Church at every Mass they offer.

It is our hope that in the near future the irregular canonical status of the SSPX will be corrected, and they will be considered a viable option by all Catholics. If any of the readers of this blog have questions or concerns please feel free to email the blog owners.

In the mean time, let us pray for Holy Mother the Church, and one another.
