101st Anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima - 40 Hours of Adoration

-last updated 9/20-

October 13th marks the 101st anniversary of the miracle of the sun at Fatima, and Our Lady's last apparition to Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco. To commemorate this occasion a modified form of the 40 Hours Devotion will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eugene Oregon.

Some of the finer details are still being worked out, however the schedule so far is as follows:

  • Latin Mass on Saturday morning at 11am in the church, celebrated by Fr. John Arcidiacono
  • Eucharistic procession to follow mass
  • There are regular confessions on Saturday at St. Mary at 4 & 7pm (new rite only)
  • 40 hours of Adoration will run from 7am on Saturday the 13th until 11pm on Sunday the 14th - this will be held in the chapel of perpetual adoration instead of the church due to a scheduling conflict
  • Booklets about Fatima, scapulars, rosaries etc will be available

Although this will be a modified form of the formal 40 Hours Devotion (a Liturgical celebration defined by the Church with specific Rubrics) the main pieces will be present.

The faithful at St. Mary are putting this devotion together to celebrate Our Lady and her Immaculate Heart, and to offer reparation to the Eucharistic Heart of Our Lord for the sins being openly committed everywhere today, as Our Lady requested we do at Fatima.

The hope is to eventually do the formal devotion throughout the Vicariate (essentially the greater Eugene/Springfield or Lane County area) at least quarterly, and to get multiple parishes involved.

For more information on what the devotion is generally please see the following article from the traditional Catholic Encyclopedia, and please email or message us on facebook if you would like more information! - This post will be updated as more information becomes available!
